Since my master’s in anthropology, I have been interested in environmental issues, particularly conflicts surrounding forests in the Philippines. During my master’s, I accompanied environmental activists and walked through densely vegI am a senior consultant psychiatrist at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, University Hospital, LMU Munich, holding a postdoctoral degree (Privatdozent) from LMU. My clinical and research expertise includes psychotherapy for the mental health sequelae of adverse life experiences such as childhood trauma, social exclusion, discrimination, and the impacts of conflict, crisis, and environmental factors like climate change, approached through the lens of One Health. I focus on psychotherapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Analysis System of Psychotherapy (CBASP), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) and Schema Therapy.
At LMU Hospital Munich, I lead the Psychotherapy and Social Neuroscience Research Unit and the Global Mental Health Research Group. Additionally, I am a board member and representative of the Global Mental Health section at the Center for International Health (CIHLMU). My work benefits from long-standing collaborations with universities in the Horn of Africa, particularly in Ethiopia, fostering a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary perspective. I am also involved in international organizations such as Vivo International e.V.
